All public holidays in Ireland in 2027
Ireland has 10 public holidays a year, and they apply nationwide. In 2027, 8 of them fall on a weekday. Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day fall on a Saturday and a Sunday.
Good Friday (26 March 2027) is not a public holiday in Ireland, so employees have no automatic right to that day off.
Christmas falls on a weekend in 2027
Ireland does not move a public holiday to the next working day when it falls on a weekend. Employees still get a benefit for Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day. The employer chooses one of three options: a paid day off within a month, an extra day of annual leave, or an extra day's pay.
An employee can ask which option applies at least 21 days before the holiday. For these two days, if the employer doesn't answer at least 14 days before, the employee gets an extra day's pay. Part-time employees qualify once they have worked at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the holiday.
Long weekends in Ireland in 2027
Seven public holidays land on a Friday or a Monday in 2027, so each one gives you a long weekend without booking any leave.
