Quiet vacationing is the practice of taking informal time off without officially reporting it to the company. The employee stays logged in on messaging tools and creates the appearance of availability, but in reality is not performing work duties, in order to enjoy free time.
This phenomenon has intensified with the spread of remote work, which blurs the boundaries between professional and personal life.
Although it may seem like a clever way to rest, in the long run it is harmful both for the employee, who cannot fully recover, and for the team, which may feel a lack of real support. It is a signal to companies that the organizational culture may not support a healthy balance and open communication about the need for rest.
