Bare minimum Monday
Starting the work week by performing only the absolutely essential tasks.
Updated on: May 7, 2026
Bare Minimum Monday is an approach to Mondays based on consciously limiting effort and focusing only on key, priority tasks. The aim is a gentle entry into the work week, reducing Monday stress and avoiding being overwhelmed by a flood of duties first thing in the morning.
Instead of plunging into a whirl of meetings and tasks, advocates of this method plan a calmer start, which allows for better planning of the rest of the week and conserving energy.
It is a response to a productivity-at-all-costs culture and promotes a more balanced approach to work. For companies, this can be a signal that employees need more autonomy in managing their time and energy, which can in turn lead to higher — not lower — effectiveness.
