Resenteeism
Staying in a job you don't like, leading to frustration and disengagement.
Resenteeism describes a situation in which an employee is deeply dissatisfied with their job but, for various reasons (e.g. financial, lack of alternatives on the market), decides to stay. This leads to feelings of resentment, cynicism, and deep disengagement.
Such an employee performs their duties, but their attitude can negatively affect the morale of the entire team.
Resenteeism is more toxic than quiet quitting because it involves an active sense of frustration rather than just passive withdrawal. For managers, it is a serious challenge that requires open communication, attempts to understand the causes of dissatisfaction, and finding solutions before the negative attitude spreads to other team members.
